Using sweetly scented willow, my inspirational baskets epitomize the elemental simplicity of combining natural materials with exquisite craftsmanship.
Showing subtle natural colors my baskets are beautiful & functional, beckoning us to get back in touch with the more elemental aspects of our daily lives.
Taking part in 'Making Weaves - The Basketmakers' Art' , the inaugural exhibition of The National Museum of Scotland's Craft Gallery in 1998. It toured to many Scottish venues as well as The NEC, Birmingham and along with the accompanying courses raised the profile of the Scottish Basketmakers Circle to a new level.
In 2001/02 my cousin, Anne Marie Bech, a texile weaver and I curated and toured our exhibition 'Weaving in our Genes' to 5 Scottish and 4 Danish venues.
The solo shows which followed on from attendance at the last Chelsea Craft Fair and the first Origin share the pinacle of achievements:
'Pods/Cochuil' at Taigh Chearsabhagh, Lochmaddy, North Uist
'The Lie of the Land' at Rochester Art Gallery
'Willow Works' at The Hill House, Helensburgh and An Tobar, Isle of Mull
Taking part in juried exhibitions abroad - from New York to Munich, from Sweden to Ireland - has added an extra piquancy to exhibiting and a very special feather to my cap!
As has having my work featured in big London stores eg The Aram Store, Fortnum & Mason and lately The Conran Shop.
